What It Is

YipitData Research & Metrics MCP lets supported AI tools access entitled YipitData research reports and Key Metrics.

Use it to ask natural-language questions about YipitData content, find relevant reports, summarize key takeaways, check recent Key Metrics updates, and query historical metric trends.

Once connected, ask questions that span YipitData research reports and Key Metrics. For example:

The Server

YipitData Research & Metrics MCP server URL:

The server is remote and entitlement-scoped. Users connect through a connection path. After authentication, the server returns only the content the authenticated user is entitled to access.

Available Tools

The Research & Metrics MCP exposes 12 tools across three categories: research tools, key metrics, and documentation.

Research Tools

Tool Purpose
search_reports Search YipitData research reports on covered companies and themes. Users can search by keyword, exact phrase, date range, report type, or call with no query filter to browse latest reports.
fetch_report Fetch the full content of a specific YipitData research report. Returns the report in Markdown format.
search_products Browse YipitData's coverage universe of companies and products. Users can search by company name, ticker, sector, or call with no query filter to list available products.
fetch_report_backing_data Fetch backing data for a report's charts and exhibits.
get_publishing_calendar Get upcoming YipitData report releases for the next 3 weeks, scoped to entitled products.

Key Metrics Tools

Tool Purpose
search_key_metrics Discover which companies and products have quantitative time series data available, such as revenue, GMV, orders, and other KPIs.
query_key_metric Fetch historical time series data for a specific product and metric. Supports filters such as metric name, entity, ticker, and date range.
query_key_metrics_grid Screen the current Key Metrics Grid across many metrics for fresh updates, QTD Y/Y growth, trailing-period trends, and WoW/MoM inflections.

Documentation Tools

Tool Purpose
get_started Orientation guide — returns what data is available, when to use reports vs. metrics vs. the grid, and key caveats. Entry point before any analysis.
list_documents Browse all available docs by title/summary — discover what exists before reading.
search_documents Search YipitData documentation for MCP notes, compliance rules, and known limitations.
get_document Fetch a specific documentation page by namespace (e.g., methodology, metrics guide).

Authentication And Entitlements

Access is controlled through YipitData authentication and entitlements.

  1. YipitData enables the user's Research & Metrics MCP entitlement.
  2. User connects through a supported connection path.
  3. User authenticates using YipitData Portal credentials.
  4. YipitData Research & Metrics MCP returns only content the authenticated user is entitled to access.

If a user is not entitled to Research & Metrics MCP, they should contact their YipitData account representative.

Connection Setup By Platform

Claude Desktop & Claude.ai

Setup:

  1. Confirm YipitData Research & Metrics MCP access is enabled with YipitData account representative.
  2. Claude privacy guardrail: before testing in Claude, users should turn off any setting that allows Anthropic to use chats to improve the product or train models, if available in their environment.
  3. On the left hand navigation bar, click Customize.
  4. Click Connectors > + symbol to Add Connectors > Add Custom Connector.
  5. Name: YipitData MCP.
  6. Remote MCP server URL:

  1. Click Connect to authenticate through the YipitData / Portal login flow when prompted.
  2. Log in with your YipitData username and password.
  3. Authorize App by accepting.
  4. Test by starting a new chat with a simple query.

Claude Code

Setup:

  3. Terminal setup command:

  1. Type /mcp + Enter > Choose the YipitData MCP to Authenticate.
  2. Log in with your YipitData username and password.
  3. Authorize App by accepting.
  4. Test by starting a new chat with a simple query.

Setup:

ChatGPT Enterprise

Admin setup:

  1. Confirm YipitData Research & Metrics MCP access is enabled with your YipitData account representative.
  2. In ChatGPT, go to Workspace settings > Apps.
  3. Create a new custom app.
  4. Configure the app with the following values:
    • Name: YipitData
    • Connection: Server URL
    • Server URL: https://mcp.portal.yipitdata.com/mcp
    • Authentication: OAuth
  5. If prompted, review the custom MCP server warning and select I understand and want to continue.
  6. Create the app.
  7. Configure user access according to your workspace policy. Admins can make the app available to all users or restrict it to specific groups.
  8. Publish or enable the app for the workspace.
  9. Test by connecting the app from ChatGPT and asking a simple query.

Underlying chart data support

Research & Metrics MCP can now access the underlying data that powers report charts, where available. This helps supported AI tools analyze report exhibits directly, rather than relying only on report text or chart images.

Research and Key Metrics MCP launch

YipitData launched Research & Metrics MCP within YipitData Connect, giving entitled customers access to YipitData research reports and Key Metrics directly from supported AI tools.

This release included:
